Job Description
  • To diagnose, repair, service, inspect, commission, and maintain a wide range of material handling equipment at customer sites, including diesel, LPG, dual-fuel, and electric forklifts, in accordance with OEM specifications, company standards, SANS requirements, and Driven Machinery Regulations (DMR)
  • The Field Service Technician is responsible for providing professional on-site technical support, accurately diagnosing mechanical, hydraulic and electrical faults, completing repairs efficiently to minimize customer downtime, and ensuring a high first-time fix rate

     

  • must possess advanced fault-finding skills, including electrical diagnostics, hydraulic systems, engine management systems, transmissions, and safety devices. They must demonstrate excellent problem-solving abilities, professionalism, and customer service while working independently with minimal supervision
  • The incumbent is responsible for identifying additional repair opportunities during inspections, providing detailed technical reports and quotations, maintaining accurate service documentation, and ensuring company assets, including the service vehicle, special tools, and equipment, are maintained to the highest standard

  • The Field Service Technician represents Criterion Equipment professionally at all customer locations and is expected to uphold the company's values, safety culture and quality standards always
  • Perform planned maintenance, inspections and breakdown repairs at customer sites
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic and electrical faults effectively
  • Deliver professional customer service while maintaining strong customer relationships
  • Achieve external billable hour targets and identify additional sales opportunities
  • Maintain company vehicle, tools, equipment and workplace housekeeping
  • Complete all administrative requirements accurately and on time
  • Ensure compliance with all safety, OEM and legal requirements
  • Perform planned maintenance, inspections and breakdown repairs

     

  • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic and electrical faults
  • Diagnose diesel, LPG and electric forklifts
  • Perform advanced electrical fault finding
  • Diagnose transmission and hydraulic system failures
  • Repair steering, brake, mast and drive systems
  • Interpret electrical and hydraulic schematics
  • Use diagnostic software where applicable
  • Complete repairs according to OEM standards
  • Customer Service
  • Carry out scheduled maintenance services according to manufacturer specifications
  • Attend breakdown calls within required response times
  • Diagnose faults accurately
  • Complete repairs efficiently with minimal downtime
  • Perform operational testing following repairs
  • Conduct load test inspections where required
  • Perform preventative maintenance inspections
  • Identify worn or unsafe components
  • Ensure equipment is safe before returning it to service

  • Record parts used correctly
  • Submit documentation within required timeframes
  • Safety and Compliance
  • Comply with Occupational Health and Safety requirements
  • Follow company Safe Work Procedures
  • Perform risk assessments before work begins
  • Wear required PPE
  • Report unsafe conditions immediately
  • Comply with DMR and SANS requirements
  • Maintain environmental compliance during repairs
  • Ensure repaired equipment complies with OEM specifications before handover

Inherent Requirements
  • Grade 12 (Matric)
  • Qualified Red Seal Diesel Mechanic / Earthmoving Mechanic / Forklift Technician (or equivalent recognised trade)
  • Valid Driver's License
  •  Forklift OEM training (advantageous)
  • Have own tools to preform repairs
  • Minimum 3–5 years' experience repairing material handling equipment
  • Strong mechanical, hydraulic and electrical diagnostic ability
  • Experience working independently in the field
  • Good computer literacy
  • Ability to interpret electrical and hydraulic diagrams
  • Good communication and customer service skills
  • Good planning and time management
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Willingness to work overtime and standby when required
